About Las Vegas Youth Volunteers

Vision:

The Las Vegas Youth Volunteers are a diverse group of young people that create a better community by engaging in service, increasing their knowledge of social issues, and acting as peer role models.

History:

LVYV started out a few years ago as the Volunteer Center's Volunteer Youth Council, which focused on participating in national days of service and developing ideas to engage youth in service. The shift in name from Volunteer Youth Council to Las Vegas Youth Volunteers signified a change in focus for the group. Meeting and planning, which were the key component of the council, now fell on an equal plane with service and hands-on learning. With the goal of being role models for their neighborhoods and the community at large, LVYV is youth led; that is, all ideas and decisions come from youth, and there is minimal adult involvement. They also try to make every day a day of service.

In 2006, LVYV dedicated over 400 hours to planning and performing meaningful service!
